#ulgc19 UNISON has called for research into where the money goes in the largely privatised care system, for steps to ensure the care sector to complies with the National Minimum Wage and the Scottish Living Wage in Scotland and for further promotion of UNISON’s Ethical Care Charter and Residential Care Charter.

Jim McFarlane, Dundee City, highlighted that for far too long our social care services have been under-resourced and social care workers under-valued and underpaid. He slammed the non payment of travel time and the level of unpaid hours because carers do care and will not leave their service users in discomfort or distress as the time is not sufficient.

Jim said “The social care crisis can only be resolved when services are fully resourced. And that means bringing those services back in house. We can send a clear message that this union demands the removal of the profiting parasites from social care. Let’s put the needs of service users and social care workers before the greed of private care providers.”
