Pay Up Now: Let the Cabinet Secretary and your MSPs know how you feel

UNISON has written to Cabinet Secretary for Health, Jeane Freeman, to outline the need for a pay rise for NHS workers this year.  Following our demonstrations UNISON members also met with the Cabinet Secretary and spoke to her of their experiences of working in the NHS in the current crisis. The Cabinet Secretary has now agreed to pay talks and we are now entering discussions about a pay rise this year

In order to secure an appropriate pay rise UNISON needs to show the Scottish government, just how strongly you feel. We are therefore asking you to email your MSPs and the Cabinet Secretary. You can also ask your friends and family to email the Cabinet Secretary and their MSPs in support of this pay campaign. If you need help then please contact your branch who will have a template you can use but individual emails are much more effective: Your branch details can be found here

Facebook purple heroes Jeane Freeman’s ministerial email contact is scottish.ministers@gov.scot. If you are a constituent then use her MSP address: Jeane.Freeman.MSP@parliament.scot

MSPs can be contacted via the Scottish Parliament website. You can find the MSPs for your area and their contact details here.

Tips for emailing

  • Identify yourself as a constituent
  • Be polite and concise
  • keep the letter or email brief
  • Ensure the information you provide is factually accurate
  • Be clear about what you are asking them to do: get a decent pay rise for NHS staff this year
  • Request a reply
  • Make sure you include your name, address and telephone number in any correspondence

Please take the time to send some emails. We need to make sure that the Cabinet Secretary hears from as many members as possible if we are to secure a decent pay rise this year.
