CORONAVIRUS HEALTH STAFF: Employers’ Duty of Care

thumbnail of DL(2020)8 – Staff Wellbeing and Support – COIVD-19Health staff: The Scottish government health workforce team have issued a letter reminding employers of their moral and statutory duty of care to protect employee’s health and safety and provide a safe environment at  work. The letter reminds boards that they need to be proactive in protecting employees. It emphasises that employers must support staff to feel safe and secure in their employment. There is also a reminder about Working Time Regulations.

Employers have the same duty of care to their staff during a pandemic as in other circumstances. Trade union safety representatives should also be involved and consulted. Full details are in the letter.

This update also includes a copy of a letter from Clare Haughey MSP, Minister for Mental Health to all NHS Scotland employers regarding Mental Health and Wellbeing Support during COVID -19.
