The Government is consulting on its plans for the Future of Foster Care. This is part of the implementation of The Promise, the report of the Independent Care Review for looked after infants, children and young people.
The Government’s Vision for Foster Care will not be achieved without investing in the workforce in local authority foster care services and children and families social work teams. The Independent Care Review was very clear about the importance of this; it recognised and accorded central importance to staffing issues for achieving change for infants, children, caregivers and families and ‘People’ is one of the five foundations of The Promise.
Unfortunately this is not reflected in the government’s consultation paper and UNISON’s response addresses this.
