Jim McFarlane – fighting cuts, defending communities

Jim McFarlane, of Dundee City branch, speaking in support of Motion 34 (campaigning for a bailout for public services), made a powerful call for action against the ongoing attacks on public services. He highlighted how years of funding cuts have devastated services and communities, costing thousands of jobs and undermining vital support across the UK.

Challenging the idea that only core statutory services matter, Jim stated: “Any service that a member does is essential. It is an insult to suggest anything different.” He rejected the claim that cuts are inevitable, pointing to the wealth hoarded by the richest 1% and big business. Calling on politicians at every level to stand with workers in action — not just words — Jim stressed the need to build a political movement that serves the interests of the many. The battle against cuts, he said, is a fight for dignity, equality and justice.
