• Negotiating Skills – 20 & 21 September – Edinburgh
This course will enable you to effectively negotiate with your line manager or senior management on behalf of your members and will cover understanding the process of negotiating; becoming familiar with different styles of negotiating; working effectively as part of a negotiating team; understanding how to prepare, present and negotiate on an issue; developing and practising negotiating skills. To be eligible to attend applicants must be ERA accredited. This course can also be used to renew stewards ERA accreditation if no training has been undertaken in the last 5 years.
Union Learning Reps (ULR) – 27 & 28 September – Glasgow (1 space left)
This course will give participants an overview of the role of a Union Learning Rep.
- Absence Management & Capability – 3-5 October – Inverness (course starts at 12.30 pm on the first day)
This course covers both good practice around Sickness Absence Policies (day 1) and the law on Capability Dismissals (day 2). The course is open to experienced stewards, branch officers and health & safety reps. - Mental Health at Work – 4-5 October – Glasgow
This course will assist reps on how to deal with members in difficult situations which may involve “mental illness” – a look at what employers can do, common signs and symptoms of poor mental health in the workplace, strategies for intervention and support, causes and strategies for coping with stress. This course is only available to experienced stewards, officers and H&S Reps. - Branch Leadership Module 5 Developing & Supporting Activists – 12-13 October – Glasgow
Attendance at one of the key Branch Officers courses (marked * in Education Programme under Branch Officer Training) is required before modules can be accessed - Website Blogs & Social Media – 14-16 October – Edinburgh
Course offers opportunity to acquire skills to set up and maintain a branch website. Having basic IT skills before attending is an advantage and is recommended those without attend a basic IT course in advance. - Magazine Editing – 14-16 October – Edinburgh
Course offers opportunity to acquire and improve the skills relevant to producing a branch magazine. Having basic IT skills before attending is an advantage and is recommended those without attend a basic IT course in advance. - Bullying & Harassment – 25-26 October – Glasgow (3 places left)
2 day course aimed at experienced stewards, officers and H&S Reps who have completed Organising Stewards or Organising for H&S. Course helps to define and recognise bullying and the contributing factors to workplace bullying. Make employers aware what they can do to recognise and eliminate workplace bullying. Develop strategies and policies for your branch and workplace.
