MSP Briefing – National Care Service (Scotland) Bill Stage 1 vote

thumbnail of UNISON NCS Bill Stage 1 MSP BriefingUNISON has urged MSPs not to vote for the National Care Service (Scotland) Bill.

The Scottish people have a right to expect that their parliament will operate to the highest standards and a “vote now – details later” approach to legislation does not provide that. Parliament is being asked to buy what amounts to “a pig in a poke” — and at a price that Parliament’s Finance Committee
believes the government can’t specify.

MSPs have a duty to get this right for the people who depend on care and who provide care. For that to happen MSPs must be certain about the type of National Care Service the Government intends. Instead of that, Parliament, and by extension the people of Scotland, are being offered a rushed vote, cast in the dark.
