Thousands of women across Glasgow will receive equal pay offer letters from the city council over the coming days and UNISON will be on hand to help guide members through the process.
UNISON, Scotland’s largest public service union, will be holding a series of drop-in sessions and information events for members who need help completing their forms.
Mandy McDowall, UNISON regional organiser, said: “It’s been a long road but in the coming weeks we’ll finally see money being rightly put back into the pockets of Glasgow’s low-paid women.
“This represents compensation for the pay lost due to a discriminatory pay and grading system in place for over 12 years and will be one of the largest re-distributions of wealth in Glasgow’s history.
“UNISON has been standing up for these women every step of the way and we’ll be holding a series of information events to ensure that our members have all the information they need to make sure money gets into members’ pockets as quickly as possible.”
Mary Dawson, UNISON Glasgow City branch chair, said: “These women are the lifeblood of Glasgow, they carry out vital roles across the city – cleaning, caring, educating and looking after some of the most vulnerable people in our society. They are the cogs that keep our city turning and it is high time they finally received compensation for the years they’ve spent in roles that were chronically undervalued.
“Members are welcome to come along to UNISON’s information and drop-in centres where we’ll be on hand to offer help with completing equal pay offer forms.”
