Millie Holroyd spoke in support of Motion 58, calling for 2027 to be recognised as the Year of Women Workers.
She celebrated the vital contribution women make to UNISON at every level, from workplace representatives and activists to elected leaders, while recognising that women continue to face inequalities including the gender pay gap, discrimination, sexual harassment and barriers to progression.
Millie argued that the Year of Women Workers would provide an opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements, raise the profile of women in the union and strengthen campaigning on equality.
She emphasised that, despite the progress made, there is still much work to do to achieve equal pay, better workplace rights and greater opportunities for women. She urged conference to support the motion and ensure the voices of UNISON’s million women members continue to shape the future of the union.
