Isabella Ingibina, City of Edinburgh branch, spoke in support of Motion 48, highlighting the significant childcare barriers faced by Black women working in the UK on Certificates of Sponsorship visas. She explained that many migrant women employed in health and social care are excluded from public childcare support, despite making a vital contribution to frontline public services.
Isabella called for fairer access to childcare, greater awareness of the challenges migrant women face and stronger support from employers and the union.
She stressed that addressing these barriers is essential to promoting equality, supporting workforce retention and ensuring Black migrant women’s voices are at the heart of UNISON’s campaigning on childcare, immigration and workplace equality.
