How outsourced NHS workers took on Serco and won
When Serco attempted to force low-paid NHS workers at Forth Valley Royal Hospital from weekly to monthly pay, backed by threats of fire and rehire, they expected staff to quietly accept it.
Instead, workers organised. Through workplace organising, creative communications, political pressure and member-led action, outsourced NHS workers built a campaign which defeated Serco’s plans and transformed confidence across the workforce.
UNISON recruited new stewards, grew membership, and the workplace was stronger and more organised than before.
