Mike Kirby UNISON Scotland’s regional secretary, commenting on the Scottish Budget 2020-21, said: “The Scottish budget agreement brings some certainty to public services. However the deal does not mitigate the decade of cuts in local government, the inflationary pressures on services, or address the further cuts which are emerging from council budget setting processes.
There are real pressures on particular areas like trading standards and environmental health as shown by UNISON Scotland’s recent Damage Reports. Greater use could have been made of the Scottish Government’s enhanced taxation powers.”
