Frances Pollock speaking in support of Composite B – National Care Service
“We can see the need for a National Care Service everywhere across Britain. In Scotland the Scottish Government are putting forward something they say is a National Care Service – but it’s not. It’s a rebranding exercise. It’s also a complete shambles.”
“The Scottish Government published a Bill that their own MSPs said didn’t add up. Despite being asked by Parliament they have not published any changes it is going to make to the Bill.”
“We can do so much better – and UNISON Scotland has. We have outlined our vision of what a National Care Service could be and how we can get there in our report ‘Towards a Real National Care Service.’ What we need is a major expansion of publicly owned and operated provision.”
“That would mean money going into care, would be spent on care, not buying yachts for hedge fund managers. Making sure staff are decently paid for the work they do. We need a National Care service but it has to be a REAL National Care Service – one reflecting our values and priorities with no place for those aiming to make profit out of other peoples frailties. Accept no substitute.”
