Rakiya Suleimen MBE from Lothian Health branch also spoke in support of the composite, stressing that migrant workers are essential to the NHS and public services, not a burden. She challenged negative narratives around migration, arguing that migrant workers are highly skilled professionals who deserve equal rights, equal pay and equal protection at work.
Rakiya emphasised that migrant workers should not have to fear exploitation or discrimination because of their immigration status and called on the union to continue challenging policies that make workers more vulnerable. She concluded by reminding conference that supporting migrant workers means supporting public services, and urged delegates to stand together in solidarity by backing the composite.
