Faith Ngoa, South Lanarkshire branch spoke powerfully in support of the composite, reminding conference that migrant workers are not statistics but the people delivering vital public services every day. Speaking from her own perspective as a migrant worker, she highlighted the contribution migrant workers make to the UK while expressing concern that proposed immigration changes would create greater insecurity, increase the risk of exploitation and leave families facing prolonged uncertainty.
Faith argued that no worker should have to choose between speaking up about poor treatment and protecting their immigration status. She praised UNISON’s commitment to standing alongside migrant workers and concluded by calling on conference to support the motion, stressing that justice, dignity and security for migrant workers strengthen rights for all workers.
