National Care Service – the one we need and the one on offer

UNISON Scotland has outlined our  vision of what a National Care Service should look like. It is very different to the legislation that the Scottish Government is trying to put through Holyrood.

Our vision is for a National Care Service that , empowers care users and workers and is delivered free at the point of need on a not for profit basis.

The Scottish Government on the other hand are proposing a centralised system, which leaves profit making in the system and is an outsourcers charter undermining the public sector and expanding the ole of markets.

Here is UNISON’s vision -and here is that vision compared with the Scottish Government’s National Care Service (Scotland) Bill.  The differences are vast. That is why UNISON says the Scottish Government should scrap the current Bill and begin a dialogue about creating something that will be – rather than just be called – a National Care Service.
