The Scottish Parliament Justice Committee is conducting an inquiry into police custody provision.
In this submission, we set out the pressures on police staff, known as PCSO’s, who work in custody units across the country. As a consequence of staff cuts they are working under great pressure and police officers are being removed from operational policing to plug the gap.
We argue that this is a clear breach of Police Scotland’s statutory duty to deliver Best Value and meet their duty of care to staff and prisoners.
