Stephen Low, UNISON Scotland’s Policy Officer, has examined the Policy manifestos of the five main parties and will summarise their social work commitments.
Lynn Sheridan from Glasgow Caledonian University will chair the event.
This is a time of great and not always welcome change: increasing poverty levels and their symptomatic issues such as family breakdown and drug misuse, sit alongside the spotlight the Covid pandemic has thrown on our care of the most vulnerable in society.
Social work services are in the front line, and decisions made by local authorities will influence how they can respond. The Scottish Government’s proposed “National Care Service” suggests new possibilities, and also great uncertainty including a possible reduction in the role of local government.
There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
