The Scottish government has published the long-awaited update on guidance for the provision of healthcare in schools and nurseries. The guidance is a substantial document which will require detailed reading when branches are working with employers to ensure the guidance is implemented. The new guidance takes on board some of UNISON’s key concerns. There are now clear policies about the training, support and insurance that should be provided for staff expected to undertake this work in schools and nurseries. Local authorities and health boards must work together to ensure that children’s needs are met. This requires staff who have appropriate training, support and recognition for the work that they do. UNISON looks forward to working with employers to implement the new guidance.
